January 2024 marked the beginning of a new Life Coaching service for young adults 18+ in Co. Monaghan and the surrounding counties.  This Life Coaching service is located in a confidential, comfortable office space on Dawson Street, Monaghan and is only a few minutes’ walk from parking and Monaghan town centre.  Life Coaching can also be provided in an online setting, depending on the needs and preferences of the individual being coached.

Many people in Co. Monaghan will be familiar with Pauline McKenna (Life Coach) from her many years in professional roles that involved advocating for and empowering people from Co. Monaghan and the surrounding counties to speak up for themselves, believe in themselves and have their rights respected.

Pauline has set up this life coaching service to specifically meet the needs of young adults (18+) who may find themselves ‘stuck’ and in need of a positive space that will help them to identify, value and nurture their uniqueness and potential.

Pauline explains that she is focusing on young adults 18+ following a ‘high demand for her life coaching service from young adults and queries from family members of young people’.  Pauline goes on to explain that ‘this is due in part to the fact that our young people are growing up in a world that is experiencing an extraordinary rate of change, where their world is driven by digital overload and the influence of social media’.

She also highlights from her life coaching of young adults that ‘the Covid pandemic and in particular the lockdowns have unfortunately left a lasting negative impact on some of our young people’. Pauline’s experiences with coaching young people in Co. Monaghan are reflected in research studies in both Ireland and the UK that highlight that young people whose transitions were missed as a result of the Covid lockdowns (such as finishing school in the traditional way, gaining part time work, socialising etc) are a cohort who may be most challenged into the future in terms of their sense of self, confidence, positivity and hopes for the future.

Pauline McKenna Life Coaching offers these young people a space to connect with themselves and really get to know who they are away from the pressures and uncertainty of the outside world.  Pauline believes that ‘life coaching is particularly beneficial for young adults as young minds are still learning, growing and adapting’.

She goes on to explain that ‘research studies confirm that when young adults invest in life coaching, they’re setting themselves up for success because they will have a deeper knowledge of who they are as they enter the workplace, start building life-long relationships and face some of the biggest life decisions they will ever make’.

Pauline uses a style of life coaching (coaching with neuroscience) that has been proven to support lasting change through the use of performance enhancing techniques, belief change and other cognitive change strategies.  She reassures anyone who is thinking of exploring life coaching that ‘all that the young person being coached needs to bring to the life coaching sessions is the motivation to change, a growth mindset and a willingness to work hard consistently through practice to support lasting change’.
